Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 build 1.0.613 Just Released
Information on Spyware/Adware Program In this second beta refresh (Build 1.0.613), we’ve made other enhancements to the detection and removal capabilities, including improved Winsock LSP removal capabilities and support for long descriptions of categorized software. In addition, we have also extended the Windows AntiSpyware beta expiration date to December 31, 2005.

Spyware Stoppers Still Improving
Information on Spyware/Adware Program PC World has just done a review of the three top anti-spyware apps.  They reported that Counter Spy (originally based on Giants engine) has taken the detection level from 81% to 88% detection in their soon to be released CounterSpy 1.5.  Out in beta form only at the time of this writing.

I immediately updated my Threats page. But then I started wondering: How does Hotbar get onto users' PCs? And what does Hotbar do once installed?

When users click on this banner, AJ neither shows nor references any license agreement. And AJ uses euphemisms like "accessible directly from your browser" rather than explicitly admitting that it will install a web browser toolbar.

MS AntiSpyware vs Ad-Aware vs SpyBot

Dubbed Microsoft AntiSpyware, the application was born after the purchase of Giant Software Company, which developed their anti-spyware application. Microsoft AntiSpyware offers plenty of features which is sure to turn some heads. Not only does it scan for spyware/adware, it can also offer real-time protection which prevents spyware from being installed in the first place.
