9 steps to remove viruses, trojans, worms, spyware, & adware

These 9 steps are usually effective in removing viruses, trojans, worms and other malicious scripts from your system:
1. Install SpyBot Search & Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html (free)
2. Install Lavasoft Ad-aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ (free)
3. Update these applications by using their Web Update features. Do this at least once per
week (free).
4. Make sure your Norton Anti-Virus is up to date; use the Norton WebUpdate service.
5. Run your system in Safe mode: hit Run from the Start Menu and type MSCONFIG then click
OK.
6. Select the SAFEBOOT option and restart your system. This bypasses your Registry and
Startup files and prevents malicious scripts from propagating.
7. Now run all of your security applications, but do not run Ad-aware and Spybot at the same
time; this will avoid program conflicts. Include a full system scan of Norton AV.
8. Run MSCONFIG again and select NORMAL STARTUP and reboot.
9. Run all of your security applications again.
Those 2 programs are not the only ones you can/should install. Try and install Microsoft AntiSpyware (based on Giant Software's engine). Also Free.
